A Married Couple Becomes Distressed About Their Abusive And Irresponsible Drinking And Wonders If They Exhibit Any Signs Of Alcohol Dependency
Lenny and Angie have been married for four years. They wanted to experience some fun and excitement before they made up their minds to have some kids and so they intentionally fashioned a super exciting social life.
The central difficulty, it needs to be pointed out, is that practically everything they do for excitement somehow includes drinking. For instance, all of the dinner engagements, family get-togethers, happy hours, sporting events, and parties with friends they spend time at are associated with drinking.
If they were sporadic drinkers this wouldn't be such a major issue. Since they drink in an irresponsible manner, nevertheless, they are beginning to take note of some noticeable alcohol-related difficulties in their lives.
As an illustration, just four weeks ago Lenny was apprehended by the police for his first DWI and has been shirking responsibilities at work because of alcohol-related health problems. Moreover, Lenny's last three performance evaluations at his place of employment have been less than acceptable and he has begun to forget what he says or does when he drinks. As a final point, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family has begun to exhibit some uneasiness about his drinking difficulties.
Similar to Lenny's circumstances, Angie has been feeling disheartened about life in general and to cope with these feelings, she has been drinking more habitually than any time in the past three years. Furthermore, Angie has been getting quite a few painful migraines and going through intense hangovers after drinking. As a final point, Angie has been feeling notably less active when she awakens, she has been getting to work late every Monday, and she has been getting some unkind criticism from her relatives, family members, friends, and coworkers about her abusive and careless drinking.
One Tuesday evening while watching the television, Angie and Lenny without any planning whatsoever discovered an attention-grabbing program about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about alcoholism signs in particular. This TV documentary was a real jolt to Angie and Lenny because many of the alcohol facts that were highlighted looked like they were undeniably correlated with many of the drinking issues Angie and Lenny had been suffering through.
With thoughts of the television program still etched in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol addiction signs they have been manifesting could be an indication that they are dependent on alcohol or maybe becoming dependent on alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's inquiry and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the doctors at the nearby substance abuse treatment clinic to find out more about the seriousness of their drinking circumstances.
Strangely enough, although their drinking behavior hadn't yet changed, it was clear to see that Lenny and Angie were at the very least dealing with their drinking difficulties, they were enthusiastic about finding out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were interested in discovering how they could appreciably decrease or do away with the drinking-related difficulties that had started to deteriorate even further.
When Angie and Lenny went to bed that night, they made up their minds that the next day, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol abuse rehabilitation clinic located downtown. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to surmount the drinking issues that had manifested themselves in their lives, they actually had the most energizing night's sleep they could recollect in the last year.
