Eventually your dog will heed you as a matter of course, and the treats will no longer be necessary.
Puppies are docile, lovable and inquisitive, so it is easy to make friends with them and teach them to behave in a proper manner. You can teach your dog from any age but it is far easier to start when they are pups because it becomes much harder as the dog grows older and gets set in his ways.
