The Alcohol Related Problems And Alcohol Related Deaths That Are Linked To Hazardous Drinking And What Can Be Done About Alcohol Addiction And Alcohol Abuse In Our Country
How many individuals face major problems in their lives because they received a "driving under the influence" conviction? On an annual basis, how many alcoholics fail to get the professional alcohol treatment they need? How many junior high, high school, and college students lose their lives every year due to an alcohol overdose? How many individuals die each year from a condition that is totally preventable, such as alcohol poisoning? How many individuals get injured or lose their lives in alcohol related traffic accidents every year? How many people are the victims of alcohol related crime or violence each and every year? How many individuals lose their lives every year because of drinking problems? How many children are born each year with fetal alcohol syndrome? How many people's lives are cut short due to abusive and excessive drinking?
So what's the point in asking these questions? Principally to underscore the devastating and destructive nature of abusive and hazardous drinking. Indeed, and based on the above questions, it is a wonder why anyone would choose to drink in an irresponsible and abusive manner.
Stated differently, with the host of legal proceedings, employment dilemmas, financial difficulties, relationship issues, and health problems that are associated with chronic alcohol abuse and alcoholism, why would any individual with a common sense mentality want to drink in an excessive and irresponsible manner? In fact when some of the above topics are looked at more closely, excessive and unhealthy drinking makes even less sense and becomes more illogical.
Wouldn't you think that chronic alcohol abusers would be able to see some of the alcoholism symptoms that they exhibit? In a similar manner, doesn't it seem feasible to think that many more heavy drinkers would be able to see some of the alcoholism signs that they manifest? Moreover, wouldn't you think that individuals who are alcohol dependent would attempt to learn more about their alcoholic symptoms by reading about some basic alcohol related information, facts and statistics?
After reviewing the alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse research literature, the point is so significant that it needs to be restated: With all of the destructive and unhealthy outcomes that are even remotely interlinked with repetitive and continuous alcohol abuse and alcoholism, why would any person want to involve himself or herself in abusive drinking?
What can be done about the extensive nature of alcohol abuse and alcoholism in the United States? Firstly, society needs to get the message to more individuals about the debilitating and damaging consequences of abusive and unhealthy drinking. Secondly, people who are alcohol dependent or alcohol abusers need to look in the mirror and ask why they are not receiving the quality alcohol counseling they require.
Third, our students need more relevant and more meaningful educational and preventative approaches and methods so that more students at all grade levels, including those at college, are "reached". And fourth, our students need to learn how to become problem solvers in life rather than resorting to the "quick fix" and the "instant gratification" of an alcohol or drug abuse "high" or "buzz".
There's lots of room for optimism and hope if individuals can start drinking responsibly and those who engage in repeated and continuous drinking can become encouraged to get the alcohol rehab they need. Indeed, why put your loved ones through pain, suffering, and turmoil because of your careless and abusive drinking when you have the power to control your life by drinking responsibly or even stopping drinking if you can't control your drinking behavior?
