The VIPs Put Institute Several Programs In Order To Reduce The Costs Linked To Poor Employee Work Performance
Christine is a fifty-seven-year-old woman who is the director of the HR department at a large lead finishing company. To help decrease the costs associated with excessive sick days, poor employee work performance, employee alcohol abuse and alcoholism, increasing absenteeism, and work related injuries, Christine and the other members of top management created some programs that made the work environment considerably more safe, more productive, and healthy.
As an illustration, thirteen years ago Christine and the other company leaders implemented an Employee's Assistance Program so that all the employees had access to first-rate counseling for their personal problems that could adversely affect their personal well-being, health, and their work performance.
As another example, approximately six years ago Christine and the other company executives built a technologically advanced workout and exercise room complete with exercise charts, scales, many different types of exercise equipment, weights, a personal trainer during business hours, and mirrors.
As another illustration, nearly a year-and-a-half ago, Christine and the other members of top management sponsored a "Weight-Watchers" class that at this moment in time meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at noon until 1:00 PM. Moreover, the company leaders employed a weight-loss nurse to manage the program.
In the last six months, in a joint venture with the Employee's Assistance Program, Christine and the other VIPs initiated an "Anger Management" class for workers who want to control their temper.
In the last two months, Christine and the other company executives implemented an alcohol and drug testing program that is linked with their drug and alcohol abuse prevention program. In truth, Christine is the primary individual in the company responsible for getting the message out to all the employees about the drug and alcohol testing program as well as the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program.
Another fairly recent addition to the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program is a class entitled "Alcohol Statistics and Facts." The rationale behind this alcohol statistics facts class is that many people do not understand the total impact of the effects of alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction without first getting exposed to some of the alcoholism and alcohol abuse facts and statistics that are available. As a result, one of the goals of this class is to provide a range of alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction facts and statistics in order to help employees gain a better comprehension of the massive number of difficulties that are correlated with excessive and abusive drinking and how they can stop these problems from coming about.
Most recently Christine and the other company administrators, via observations from employees, initiated a class that focuses directly on severe drinking entitled "What is Alcoholism"? This class meets every Tuesday morning an hour-and-a-half before work and focuses essentially on the differences between alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency, on some of the essential differences between statistics on alcohol abuse and statistics on alcoholism, and on the different kinds of rehabilitation that are available for people who have alcohol drinking problems such as people who drink in an irresponsible manner.
Even though every one of these preventative maintenance and health programs was fairly expensive, upper management personnel believe that they are several thousands of dollars ahead by providing all of their workers with a safe, healthy, and more productive work environment.
